Our programs in Ghana are designed to create strong, independent girls and women who seek to lead change in their own lives, in the lives of their families, and in their communities.
High School Leadership Program
Imagine no one had ever asked you what you thought, how you felt, or what you wanted. Our High School Leadership program is designed to empower girls in high school to develop confidence, a solid plan, and leadership skills so they can achieve their dreams. We work with over 300 girls living in poverty annually to help them become successful leaders for themselves, their families, and their communities.
University Scholarships
Each year, we offer several university scholarships to our high school leadership students who are academically gifted, but face extreme poverty. To be eligible, students must demonstrate exemplary leadership skills, and have chosen career paths in areas where their career can create meaningful change such as in the areas of health, education and community development.
Work Experience Program
Our work experience program provides dozens of high school graduates every year with the opportunity to gain experience leading change in a professional setting, both in the office and the field. Throughout their two year work experience program, girls earn a monthly stipend, as well as educational savings so they can afford a four year university degree.
Rural Literacy Program
Our rural literacy program provides young female high school graduates with the opportunity to lead after school literacy classes in rural communities where less than 25% of children can read and write for their grade level. By using activity based learning activities that don’t require expensive store bought materials, girls are changing the educational outcome for entire communities.
Community Advocacy Program
As part of their work experience program, girls lead community advocacy programs, which train community members how to advocate to local governing bodies for much needed resources. As an organization that values sustainability, our goal is to show both young girls and community leaders how they can lead change for themselves.
Skills & Business Training Programs
Some girls simply do not get the educational foundation needed to succeed academically, but still have the drive to pursue a career. Our Skills & Business training programs provide girls with tangible skills, and education on how to become a successful entrepreneur. Their receive both from formal instruction and gain experience running Create Change's social enterprises, to ensure they are prepared to run their own business.
